People often ask me why I decided to create Something From Sicily when I already spend my days sharing products from all across Italy.
The answer is simple.
Because Sicily changed me.
I was born into a Calabrian family, where food wasn't simply something you ate—it was how you showed love. Sunday dinners lasted for hours. Tomatoes were canned every summer. Bread was never wasted. Recipes were never written down because they lived in the hands of the people who made them.
Those traditions became the foundation of Something From Italy, where I have the privilege of sharing authentic products from every region of Italy.
But then I married into a Sicilian family.
My husband's family comes from the small town of Borgetto, and although I had heard countless stories over the years, nothing prepared me for the first time I stepped onto the island.
From the moment I arrived, I fell in love.
It wasn't just the beaches or the mountains. It wasn't only the incredible food.
It was the people.
There is a warmth in Sicily that is difficult to describe. Strangers welcome you like family. Conversations happen over espresso instead of text messages. Every village has its own traditions, every artisan has a story, and every meal feels like a celebration of generations that came before us.
I found myself wanting to bring everything home.
Yes...even the wonderfully cheesy souvenirs.
I smiled at the Trinacria magnets, admired the colorful ceramic Moor's heads, collected hand-painted olive oil cruets, and wandered through artisan shops thinking, How can I possibly fit all of this in my suitcase?
But the more time I spent there, the more I realized the souvenirs weren't what I truly wanted to bring home.
I wanted to bring home the feeling.
The feeling of walking through Ortigia at sunset.
The smell of fresh lemons hanging from the trees.
The sound of church bells echoing through ancient streets.
The taste of pistachios from Bronte, almonds from Avola, sea salt harvested along the coast, and olive oil produced by families who have cared for the same groves for generations.
Most of all, I wanted to introduce people to the families behind these products.
The artisans.
The farmers.
The bakers.
The small businesses whose traditions deserve to be celebrated far beyond the island itself.
Sicily isn't just another region of Italy.
It has been shaped by the Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spaniards, and countless other civilizations over thousands of years. Every culture left something behind—architecture, recipes, flavors, art, and traditions that make Sicily unlike anywhere else in the world.
That rich history can still be seen today in every marketplace, every ceramic workshop, every family recipe, and every village festival.
That's why I created Something From Sicily.
Not simply as another subscription box.
But as a love letter to an island that captured my heart.
Each collection is carefully curated with authentic Sicilian foods, artisan-made treasures, and stories from the people who call this extraordinary island home.
My hope is that when you open your box, you'll experience a small piece of what I felt during my first visit.
